UFC 285 was a fix, Jon Jones may have paid Ciryl Gane “under the table” to take a dive: Colby Covington

Colby Covington wasn’t impressed with the UFC 285 main event clash between Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane.

Jones returned to the octagon after a hiatus of three years to make his much anticipated heavyweight debut, earlier this month. The former UFC light heavyweight shut down all talk of ring rust with an absolutely dominant showing.

‘Bones’ took hardly two minutes to walk Gane down, sit him up against the cage and sink in a guillotine to win the vacant UFC heavyweight title. Covington, like many others, was taken aback by the amount of resistance ‘Bon Gamin’ offered against Jones.

‘Chaos’ even stated that Jones’ brothers (NFL stars) could have paid Gane off to take a dive. The 35-year-old said in a recent interview with James Lynch:

“It just looked like Ciryl was scared, scared of the moment, too much pressure. Honestly it looked like it was a work, it looks like it was a fix. Maybe Jon Jones’ brothers’ went over to France and told Ciryl that, you know, they’re gonna pay him under the table to take a dive, because that’s honestly what it looked like.”

Colby Covington’s prediction for Jon Jones vs. Ciryl Gane

Colby Covington was away from the limelight for nearly a year after being sucker-punched by Jorge Masvidal outside a Miami restaurant in March 2022.

‘Chaos’ reappeared on social media ahead of UFC 285, revealing his pick for the title clash between Jon Jones and Ciryl Gane. Seemingly not a big fan of ‘Bones’, the 35-year-old said:

“Greetings, nerds and virgins. America’s champ is back with America’s pick of the week… We have UFC 285 coming to you live from Las Vegas with a heavyweight title fight. It’s Ciryl Gane versus part-time fighter and full-time felon Jonny ‘Bones’ Jones. Last time Jonny threw down in Vegas, he was detained by the Las Vegas Police Department and caught another charge. But tonight, the only thing that Jon’s catching are those big hands by Ciryl Gane… Oh yeah, f**k you, Jon! Scumbag!”

Covington has since returned to the welterweight title mix after weighing in as the surprise backup fighter for the UFC 286 title rematch between Leon Edwards and Kamaru Usman that went down last weekend in London.
