Superlek suggests he will be looking to play counterstriker against Rodtang

It’s never a good idea to exchange shot-for-shot with Rodtang Jitmuangnon, but Superlek Kiatmoo9 seems to have devised a plan that would put him in the best position to take the victory.

Superlek will defend his newly won ONE flyweight kickboxing world title against Rodtang at ONE Fight Night 8 on Prime Video in what is shaping up to be an absolute barnburner of an outing.

In an interview with ONE Championship, ‘The Kicking Machine’ said he’ll try to be as calculated as he can be and become a counter striker against his fellow Thai superstar.

He said:

“In this upcoming fight, my game plan is to watch and learn his movement first, then come with an attack strategy. He will definitely come to me, so I will be patient and look for chances to counter him. But I can’t stay still too long without attacking, or I may lose points.”

While he doesn’t have the same notoriety as Rodtang, Superlek is still one of the most dangerous fighters in ONE Championship. The 27-year-old boasts an impressive 132-29-4 overall record and is 9-8-1 in ONE Championship, the only loss coming against then-ONE flyweight kickboxing world champion Ilias Ennahachi.

Since that lone defeat inside the circle in 2021, Superlek racked up four straight victories capping it off with a unanimous decision win over Daniel Puertas to claim the vacant ONE flyweight kickboxing world title.

Rodtang, meanwhile, is a perfect 13-0 in his striking matches in ONE Championship and is at 270-42-10 overall. ‘The Iron Man’ is coming off a dominant unanimous decision win over China’s Jiduo Yibu this past January.

ONE Fight Night 8 is ONE Championship’s third Amazon card of the year and will be available live and for free to all Prime Video subscribers in North America.
