Superlek says the size of the gloves “won’t affect” Rodtang’s power

At ONE Fight Night 8, Superlek Kiatmoo9 will take on one of the world’s most ferocious power punchers in the first defense of his ONE flyweight kickboxing world championship

Rodtang Jitmuangnon has established a dominant run as ONE’s flyweight Muay Thai world champion thanks to his ferocious fighting style. Known for absolutely bullying his opponents into submission with his relentless pressure and power, ‘The Iron Man’ is now out to achieve two-sport champion status when he challenges ‘The Kicking Machine’ on March 24.

The fight presents a great clash of styles between two fighters who excel in different aspects of martial arts. The common opinion is that if the champion wishes to defeat his upcoming challenger and break his run of wins, he needs to avoid getting into a fight with ‘The Iron Man’.

Despite being well aware of the threat that his upcoming opponent possesses, Superlek Kiatmoo9 is not worried about his opponent’s power. He also believes that competing in kickboxing gloves will not change the fact that his strikes can land with a devastating impact.

In an interview with ONE Championship, the kickboxing titleholder said:

“I don’t think [having bigger gloves] is a factor. He wore 8-ounce gloves when he fought Muay Thai [before joining ONE]. I think it won’t affect him at all.”

Lito Adiwang believes Superlek’s footwork will “play a big factor” against Rodtang

Team Lakay’s Lito Adiwang has been weighing in with his thoughts on the upcoming main event at ONE Fight Night 8 on March 24, providing arguments for how Superlek Kiatmoo9 can defeat his upcoming challenger.

With a superfight between world champions, ‘The Kicking Machine’ will look to defend his flyweight kickboxing world championship for the first time against flyweight Muay Thai king Rodtang Jitmuangnon.

The fight has been a dream fight for fans over the years. Whilst many expected to see it take place in Muay Thai, both men meeting inside the circle is the most important thing.

In the ONE Flyweight Muay Thai World Grand Prix last year, both men found themselves on opposite sides of the bracket. The fight didn’t materialize after Rodtang pulled out of the tournament before he could compete in the semifinal round.

Their eventual meeting was set in stone following ONE Fight Night 6 in January. On the same card that saw ‘The Kicking Machine’ claim the vacant kickboxing title, ‘The Iron Man’ scored a kickboxing win over China’s Jiduo Yibu.

Speaking exclusively to Sportskeeda MMA, Lito Adiwang shared his thoughts on the matchup and how the defending champion can use his speed and the ruleset to pull off the upset:

“Superlek has the tools to also beat Rodtang here, especially if he uses his distance wisely… His footwork will also play a big factor in this fight because this match is in kickboxing so that will play a very big role in how he approaches the fight.”
