MANILA, Philippines—Nine months since leaving the head coach position for Chery Tiggo, Aaron Velez was officially welcomed back by the team on Monday.

The Crossovers announced that they were tapping the champion coach anew to be the lead mentor for the squad in the upcoming return of the Premier Volleyball League in two weeks.

“The experienced coach is returning to take the wheel and lead the Chery Tiggo Crossovers back to the top,” the team’s announcement read.

Velez will replace Clarence Esteban, who took his spot in April of last year, for the coaching gig.

Unlike under Velez’s time when Chery won the PVL’s Open Conference in 2021, the team was unable to snag a championship under coach Esteban in a span of nine months.

The Crossovers ranked eighth in this season’s Open Conference while settling for fourth place in the Reinforced Conference.

Velez will be handling a revamped squad that recently acquired the talents of Seth Rodriguez, Ponggay Gaston and Bingle Landicho.
